Shoes & Such – Flagstaff, AZ

30 Aug

Shoes & Such was another boutique find of the day! This boutique is located around the corner from Rainbow’s End. At first I thought it was just a shoe store from the name, but inside was a beautiful collection of women’s clothing and shoes. I immediately wanted almost everything in the store.

Right when I walked in my eye caught the colorful cami’s on the front table. They were all buy 2 for $16, so of course I couldn’t help but pick out 2. It was then when I was greeted by the very friendly staff. The girl I spoke with was young and super sweet. She was very helpful and made my shopping experience enjoyable.

I felt like this store was quite small, but there was so much to shop around the room. There was another table in the front of the room that caught my eye with cowgirl boots, UGG’s, and fall sweaters. They had a huge selection of UGG boots for the fall. The merchandise was all uniquely displayed in the whole boutique. I loved it all.. even the photos hanging on the wall. When I asked about them, the sales girl told me that the boutique owner is good friends with a local photographer, which is where all the photos are from. Shoes & Such is a boutique I’d definitely travel back to. See more pics on our Flickr page!

Rainbow’s End – Flagstaff, AZ

30 Aug

The Rainbow’s End is a “funky boutique” that I found on my travels out west in downtown Flagstaff, AZ. This funky boutique had so much to look at inside and out. I could have spent hours just browsing through all the cute accessories and wide selection of shoes. The store was full of fun and unique women’s clothing, shoes, and accessories.

What I loved about this boutique is not only was the store full of known designer brands, but it also had a lot of local art, jewelry, bags, wallets, etc. to support the Flagstaff community.

This is the perfect boutique to find a personal gift for a friend, or treat yourself to something special. To take a virtual tour of The Rainbow’s End click here. Below are some of the wallets made by a local Flagstaff artist. Love finding that ‘one of a kind’..

Sorella – Woodstock, NY

18 Apr

Sorella of Woodstock is a women’s clothing boutique found in the center of town. You can’t miss it with its bright turquoise awning. The store looks like a chic boutique you’d find in LA, I absolutely adored it the second I walked in. Sorella is owned by a trio of sisters, one of them which we got to meet while we were there. This boutique is filled with stylish designer clothing from daily casual wear to night out on the town. This store is perfect for finding that one of kind party dress that no one else will have!

This boutique has an amazing selection of women’s designer brands from over sized sweaters, cardigans, scarfs, tanks, jackets, dresses, skirts, jewelry, shoes, and denim. The denim was displayed in the middle of the store, and very easy to shop by brand. I got to try on some new styles of Jbrand jeans while I was there.

The store just has a very cozy and relaxed atmosphere. I love walking in to a boutique and feeling at ease. The merchandise was uniquely displayed which made it fun to shop. There was even a comfy couch in the front of the store that Will could relax on while I browsed the clothes and tried some on. This boutique is definitely worth the drive, and there are plenty of great restaurants and cafes in this town too! Check out our flickr page for more photos and their facebook page for more info!

Eden Boutique – New Paltz, NY

9 Jan

Eden Boutique is a unique find! Located in New Paltz, NY, off the Main Street in the Water Street Market. It’s a small boutique full of beautiful clothing and unique jewelry. The presentation of all the clothing and jewelry is so nice throughout the store. Made it easy and fun to shop.

The inside of Eden had a very spiritual and peaceful decor and atmosphere. There were buddhas, stones, plants, feathers, everything to make you feel calm and tranquil. A lot of the merchandise is displayed on wooden dressers or trunks. Even the business cards were made in fortune cookies!

After speaking with sales girl, (who was great – very helpful!) she told me that the jewelry is all handmade by the owner of the boutique, Maureen Smith. Maureen was on lunch break at the time, but I came back later to meet her. Maureen works from her shop, making all her jewelry by hand. She has a little working space set up in the front. All of her jewelry is available for wholesale. All of the prices in the store seemed affordable and the service was wonderful. I plan to stop in again next time I’m visiting or driving through New Paltz! See more pics of the inside of Eden Boutique on our Flickr page.

Bella Boutique – Philadelphia, PA

8 Jan

Bella Boutique is a vintage and consignment shop located on 4th Street between South and Lombard. When I first walked in, I was so overwhelmed with the amount of vintage designer handbags and jewerly there was, that I could bearly make it past the front room.

When I did walk into the second room, I was even more overwhelmed with the amount of shoes and just racks of clothes in general this store had in it. I’ve been to many consignment shops, but this one was so organized by type of merchandise and colors. There was a huge rack of womens black leather jackets and an amazing rack of vintage furs! Lots of affordable vintage evening wear, and racks of shirts and jeans. There was a small rack of mens clothing in the back of the store that Will enjoyed looking at while I was busy trying on all the shoes and vintage furs.

Of course on my way out, my eye caught an old vintage Gucci strap handbag and I had to ask to look at, it was in the display case right by the register. I tried it on, and with an great offer at a discounted price, it had to be mine! This store will always be remembered for a great collection of vintage clothes, shoes, and designer handbags. Seems like this is the type of store you’d shop in to find a vintage hidden gem! See more photos on our Flickr page!

Comic Pick of the Week – Invincible # 75

6 Nov

Invincible # 75

For me nothing beats a good space epic, I mean I really love them! I remember being a kid and just waiting for the next issue of Silver Surfer or Green Lantern to come out, because you never knew what you were in store for. Invincible 75 fits that bill perfectly.

Reading this issue brought me right back to being 12 years old, laying on my living room floor, in complete anticipation of what would be waiting for me with the turn of each page. Robert Kirkman and company have been building up to this Vultrumite War arc for quite sometime, and it’s no disappointment. If you’ve been following Invincible, you’re already familiar with the intense and often graphic action that has become synonymous with this title (if you’re not, get off your butt and go grab a copy!), this issue is no exception. Taking place in the far reaches of space, we join Mark (Invincible) and his small crew of heroes on their way to confront the last remnants of the Vultrumite empire, once a vast world conquering race, now reduced to a couple handfuls of soldiers. The problem is every one of the Vultrumites is as strong, if not stronger than Invincible himself. When the two opposing forces meet, the ensuing battle explodes, leaving casualties on both sides.

Visually the book is amazing! Ryan Ottley, with assistance from on again off again inker Cliff Rathburn and colorist FCO Plascencia, blow it out of the water! Every page looks like these guys put their all into it. Throwing in no less than three double page spreads, they make it feel as though you’re part of the action, something that has been a hallmark of this book since the beginning.

Even though the story takes place in the middle of the war, Kirkman does a great job of bringing you up to speed, making this issue easily accessible to new readers. So no excuses, go to the comic shop and treat yourself to one of the best ongoing titles on the rack today!

Atomic City Comics – Philadelphia, PA

2 Nov
On our trip back up the east coast, Nik and I took an impromptu detour through Philly to soke up some local hospitality, by doing a little shopping, and enjoying some must have Philly cheese steaks. Our first stop was South street, known for its boutiques and eateries. We went to stop in at Showcase Comics, and found out they evolved into Atomic City Comics and had moved a few doors down. Cool, a new store.
Walking in the shop we were greeted by a couple of the employees, which I feel is something neglected in a lot of shops, immediately giving it a nice neighborhood feel. The first thing I noticed was a wall of manga, definitely the most of any shop we’ve been in thus far. Right next to the “wall of manga” was the first of a few different arcade games for customers to play, another cool, inviting element of the shop. This place utilizes every square inch they have. No matter where you turn your head you’ll be looking at something, be it comics, statues, posters, plush dolls, belt buckles, or even a selection of masks. Their current comic selection was more than ample, comprised of everything from pop culture icons like Spiderman to lesser known titles such as Rasl. Similarly their graphic novel selection was extensive, and had something for everyone. I took special notice of their large inventory of omnibi, essentials, and showcase books. There’s a small room in the back for back issues and adult books. They also have a wide array of t-shirts, which I’m a glutton for.

The bottom line is, I really enjoyed Atomic City Comics. They have a great selection of comics and merchandise, coupled with a nice friendly shopping environment. It’s the kind of place that makes you happy to be part of the comic book community. Check Flickr for more photos!
